Southern Edge Arts director Annette Carmichael revamps The Creation of Now with multigenerational cast of 70

Albany’s Southern Edge Arts (SEA) is set to present a modern restaging of *The Creation of Now*, a unique and immersive performance that was first performed in Denmark a decade ago. This time around, the production brings together a diverse cast of more than 70 artists, community members, and young people.

Some original cast members have returned for this reimagining, once again directed by Annette Carmichael, who led the production during its inaugural run. Notable returning performers include Archie Ryan, who played Omo ten years ago and will now showcase aerial skills, and Ashling Jackson, one of The Children in the 2015 version, who will perform on a dance trapeze in the upcoming shows.

Performances will take place over four shows from October 10 to 12 at SEA’s section of the PCYC building on Sanford Road. The venue will be transformed to accommodate a multi-layered contemporary performance featuring circus tricks, rollerskating, theatre, and dance. The cast ranges widely in age, from as young as three months to over 70 years old.

*The Creation of Now* offers an immersive experience for audiences, telling the story of Omo, an ancient child sent on a quest to find “Now.” The production has been thoughtfully updated to reflect and resonate with the Great Southern community.

Annette Carmichael, SEA’s Artistic Director, shared, “It seems even more essential in 2025 to celebrate the collective power of our community to see the beauty in our world. Working at Southern Edge Arts, I’ve witnessed children’s expertise at staying in the moment, and it feels fitting that as a youth organisation, we deliver this project to the wider community.”

Carmichael added, “I hope people will feel welcome to join us in making or witnessing this poetic show. When I first envisioned *The Creation of Now*, I never expected to have the chance to recreate it 10 years later.”

**Showtimes:**

– Friday, October 10 at 6:00 PM
– Saturday, October 11 at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM
– Sunday, October 12 at 6:00 PM

Don’t miss this captivating performance that celebrates community, creativity, and the power of now.
