LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying two men accused of targeting seniors in a “distraction ID theft scheme.”
According to police, the suspects were observed watching a victim enter their PIN number at a local business. Investigators explained that the pair then dropped money on the ground and tapped the victim on the shoulder to create a diversion.
During this distraction, a second suspect attempted to steal the victim’s debit card.
When the attempt inside the business failed, the suspects followed the victim into the parking lot and managed to steal the card there. Later, the victim’s bank account was drained.
Authorities have released images of the suspects and are urging anyone who recognizes them to contact the police immediately.
