**Farmers Stage Massive Protest in Lucknow Over Land Acquisition Issues**

Lucknow: Farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Rashtrawadi) staged a massive protest in Lucknow on Tuesday. Arriving on bullock carts and carrying sticks, they marched from Kaiserbagh to the District Magistrate’s office, demanding justice over land acquisition grievances.

The protesters accused the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) of seizing a cremation ground and failing to deliver the compensation and rehabilitation benefits promised during land acquisition. According to the farmers, their land in Ujariyaon, acquired under the Gomti Nagar scheme in 1984, was compensated at only 84 paise per square foot. The compensation rate was later revised by the court to ₹4.60 per square foot.

Despite a 2016 court order directing full payment, the farmers allege that the LDA has not disbursed the entire amount, citing a lack of funds. Ashok Yadav, president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Rashtrawadi), highlighted that along with compensation, the farmers were promised jobs, housing, farmer centers, and overall village development — none of which have been fulfilled.

“Women of farmer families are now forced to work as domestic help to survive,” Ashok Yadav stated, expressing the dire socio-economic conditions faced by their community.

The protesters also raised concerns over the loss of communal spaces, noting that out of three cremation sites originally available to them, only one remains intact. The rest have reportedly been taken over by the LDA.

“We have written proof of the promises made, but no authority listens to us,” said participating women farmers. They added that despite years of appeals to both the LDA and district officials, their grievances remain unaddressed.

Leaders declared that farmers are caught in a struggle between the state government and LDA. They warned that if their 13-point demand charter is not met, they will launch an indefinite agitation.

The protest highlighted the urgent need for the authorities to fulfill their promises and address the longstanding issues faced by the farming community of Ujariyaon.
