Cheryl Corriveau’s “Political Theater” letter (Oct. 14) misses the mark and the facts. Her defense of the Santa Clarita Veterans Services Collaborative echoes the organization’s own press release while ignoring The Signal’s Oct. 10 reporting, which documented serious financial discrepancies. According to The Signal’s staff report, IRS filings show the collaborative’s reserves dropped from $143,888 to $8,859 between 2021 and 2023, with overhead climbing to 82% of all spending. The same records confirm $24,000 per year in payments to board member Jeff Stabile through his own company, Pegasus Two Consulting LLC contradicting the group’s repeated claim of being “100% volunteer-run.” The organization even lost its tax-exempt status in 2020 for failing to file taxes. Rather than address these facts, Ms. Corriveau chose to disparage Denise Lite and Dr. Harleen Grewal two women who served honorably and raised legitimate questions about transparency. Personal attacks are not accountability; facts are. Perhaps before criticizing others, she should have read The Signal’s facts first. Now that’s embarrassing. Nancy Fairbanks.
