On September 23, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka set an unfortunate record in Men’s T20 International (T20I) cricket. During the 2025 T20 Asia Cup match against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, Shanaka was dismissed without scoring, marking his 14th duck in just 102 innings. This unwanted milestone makes him the player with the most ducks in T20I history.

### Dasun Shanaka Leads with 14 Ducks

According to ESPNcricinfo, Shanaka now tops the list for the most ducks in Men’s T20Is. He has accumulated 14 ducks over 113 matches (102 innings). Despite this record, Shanaka remains a vital member of the Sri Lankan T20I squad. He has scored 1,601 runs at an average of 20.26 with a strike rate of 123.05. Additionally, Shanaka has contributed significantly with the ball, claiming 38 wickets at an average of 22.86.

### Players Close Behind with 13 Ducks

By reaching 14 ducks, Shanaka surpassed five players who have been dismissed for ducks 13 times in T20I cricket. This list includes Rwanda’s Kevin Irakoze, Zappy Bimenyimana, Martin Akayezu, Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar, and Ireland’s Paul Stirling.

Among players from Full Member nations, former Indian captain Rohit Sharma is notable with 12 ducks in T20Is.

### Other Sri Lankan Players’ Records

It is worth mentioning that no other Sri Lankan player has recorded more than 10 ducks in T20I cricket. The players closest to Shanaka are Tillakaratne Dilshan and Lasith Malinga, who have 10 and 9 ducks respectively.

Dasun Shanaka’s record highlights the unique challenges even key players can face in the fast-paced format of T20 cricket, where the risk of early dismissal is always high.
