WEST CHESTER Bomb threats were received Friday at the local Pennsylvania offices of both U. S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-6th Dist.) and U. S. Rep. Chris Deluzio, (D-17th Dist.) in the wake of an ongoing war of words on social media between President Donald Trump and the six members of Congress who are veterans and posted a video urging military personnel not to obey “illegal orders.” Spokespeople for both legislators from Pennsylvania reported the incidents. “Representative Houlahan’s district office in West Chester, PA was the target of a bomb threat earlier today,” said a press release posted on Houlahan’s web page. “Thankfully, the staff there as well as at the office in Washington, D. C. are safe. We are grateful for our local law enforcement agencies who reacted quickly and are investigating. “As Rep. Houlahan has said many times over, there is no place for threats and political violence in our nation or our political discourse.” The threats came one day after President Donald Trump reacted to a 90-second video in which Houlahan, Deluzio and several other veterans now in Congress reminded those in the military that their oath is the the U. S. Constitution and they have a duty to defy “illegal orders.” In their video, made of pieces of dialogue spliced together, the six Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, and Reps. Jason Crow, Maggie Goodlander, Deluzio, and Houlahan, all Democrats, said, “this administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens. “Right now, the threats to our Constitution are not just coming from abroad, but from right here at home.” They added, “No one has to violate the law, or our Constitution.” No specific examples of “illegal orders” are given in the video. Trump has recently ordered the destruction of what he claims are boats and those on board carrying drugs into the U. S. The legality of those strikes have been questioned. He has also ordered uniformed military into American cities, almost exclusively run by Democratic mayors. On Trump’s social media account, he posted an article about the video featuring the six, saying, “really bad, and Dangerous to our Country.” “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!!” Trump went on. “LOCK THEM UP???” He also called for the lawmakers’ arrest and trial, adding in a separate post that it was “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH,” according to PBS News. He shared another post which read “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!,” the BBC reported. Since Trump’s response, at least Houlahan, Deluzio and Kelly have sent out emails using his comments to encourage campaign donations. Trump has since told Fox News in a radio interview on Friday: “I’m not threatening death, but I think they’re in serious trouble. “If you look at sedition,” Trump continued, “that’s a form of, a very strong form of being a traitor. It’s a terrible thing to say, I must tell you.” In response, the six issued a joint statement: “We are veterans and national security professionals who love this country and swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. That oath lasts a lifetime, and we intend to keep it. No threat, intimidation, or call for violence will deter us from that sacred obligation. “What’s most telling is that the President considers it punishable by death for us to restate the law. Our servicemembers should know that we have their backs as they fulfill their oath to the Constitution and obligation to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty. “But this isn’t about any one of us. This isn’t about politics. This is about who we are as Americans. Every American must unite and condemn the President’s calls for our murder and political violence. This is a time for moral clarity. “In these moments, fear is contagious, but so is courage. We will continue to lead and will not be intimidated. “Don’t Give Up the Ship!, the statement said.
