Michigan’s football team enters Saturday’s game at Maryland in a must-win situation. The Nov. 29 showdown against No. 1 Ohio State looms large, but the 18th-Wolverines (8-2, 6-1) can’t afford a setback against the Terrapins if they want to keep their Big Ten championship game and College Football Playoff hopes alive. Kickoff in College Park is at 4 p. m., and MLive will be providing live updates throughout. Both teams are trending in different directions. Michigan has won four straight, although the last two games have been decided by less than a touchdown, while Maryland has lost six in a row after a 4-0 start. After committing five turnovers in last week’s 24-22 walk-off win over Northwestern, Michigan is hoping to shore up ball protection this week. Freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood has thrown four of his five interceptions this season over the past two weeks and now faces a Maryland defense that leads the conference with 18 picks. Maryland’s offense, though, has struggled recently with freshman quarterback Malik Washington. The Terrapins scored just six points in last week’s loss to Illinois and has scored 20 or fewer in four straight. Michigan has won 11 of 12 career meetings against Maryland.
