**18-Year-Old Man Among Over 50 Arrested in Massachusetts Child-Porn Sting**
An 18-year-old man who lived with his parents in their home daycare center was among more than 50 people arrested last week in Massachusetts during a major child-pornography sting, authorities said.
Daniel Cruz was taken into custody as part of “Operation Firewall,” a three-day operation led by the Massachusetts State Police’s Division of Investigative Services. The extensive crackdown resulted in 56 arrests of suspects ranging in age from 18 to 75. Troopers executed 34 search warrants and seized a total of 229 devices during the investigation.
“These women and men did their jobs with excellence, with precision, and with professionalism,” said Massachusetts State Police Superintendent Col. Geoffrey Noble in a statement. “They delivered exactly what the public expects from us, which is strong police investigations conducted with integrity and a singular focus on protecting victims from further harm and, in this instance, our most vulnerable victims: our children.”
Cruz, along with many of the other individuals arrested, was charged with possession of child pornography. He reportedly lived in his family’s home where they operated Yhandy’s Daycare in Templeton, according to WFXT. The daycare facility was licensed to provide care for up to 10 children. A source familiar with the investigation stressed there was no known link between the children who attended the daycare center and Cruz’s arrest.
The state Department of Early Education and Care confirmed Cruz had been listed as an “approved household member” in their records. The daycare’s license is no longer active.
Other suspects arrested in the sting face a range of charges, including alleged possession, production, and sharing of child sexual abuse material, as well as child enticement, failure to register as a sex offender, rape, and assault and battery of a child.
“The Massachusetts State Police are working hard every day to keep our communities safe, especially our children,” Governor Maura Healey said in a statement. “Thank you to Colonel Noble, all of the troopers involved and our partners for their hard work to take these predators off the street.”
Of those arrested, 55 were men and one was a woman. Authorities indicated that additional arrests may be made in the coming days.
