Texas travels to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs “Between the Hedges.” Tonight’s game could be the most important of the season for the Longhorns. With three tough games remaining, UT’s record down the stretch will determine if they make the College Football Playoff (CFP).
The most crucial win for Texas in these final three games is undoubtedly tonight’s matchup against Georgia. Here’s the breakdown:
- If the Longhorns beat the Bulldogs but lose to either Arkansas or Texas A&M, UT has a 65% chance to make the CFP.
- If Texas loses in Athens but wins the final two games, their chances are about 64% to get into the playoff.
Currently, Texas holds only a 49% chance to make the CFP according to ESPN FPI projections, which indicates the computers don’t expect Texas to win enough of their remaining games. In fact, Texas is a six-point underdog tonight against the Bulldogs and will also be an underdog against the Texas A&M Aggies.
If Texas wins out — taking all three remaining games — their spot in the CFP is guaranteed. Conversely, if the Longhorns lose two of their final three games, they are eliminated from playoff contention. But what if Texas wins two of the last three?
