The Pittsburgh Steelers saw several defensive players absent from the field at Wednesday’s practice, and there was a new injury update to monitor along the offensive line. However, the good news was the return of starting left guard Isaac Seumalo, who participated as a limited player for the first time since before Week 9.

Seumalo has missed the past three games due to a pectoral injury, including Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. His absence has been felt keenly by the Steelers’ offense, especially in the running game. When Seumalo has not been on the field, the team has struggled to effectively run its jumbo package, which relies on an extra offensive lineman to open up the running lanes. Getting Seumalo back is expected to boost the Steelers significantly ahead of their critical Week 11 clash with the Cincinnati Bengals.

### Steelers’ Isaac Seumalo Returns to Practice

The Steelers’ running game started the season slowly, averaging just 63 rushing yards per game through the first three weeks. However, from Weeks 4 to 7, the team improved, averaging 126 rushing yards per contest. The turning point coincided with the team’s increased use of its jumbo package, featuring a sixth offensive lineman, Spencer Anderson, alongside 300-pound tight end Darnell Washington. This formation opened new offensive possibilities.

Since Seumalo’s injury, Anderson has been filling in at left guard, but his presence has limited Pittsburgh’s ability to fully utilize the jumbo package. In Week 10, the Steelers tried using veteran Andrus Peat as the sixth offensive lineman. However, Peat only played eight snaps after committing a false start on the game’s opening play.

Without Seumalo, the Steelers have not rushed for more than 93 yards in any game over the past three weeks, currently averaging just 68 rushing yards per game during this stretch. Meanwhile, the Bengals do not possess an elite run defense, making Seumalo’s potential return even more critical. His comeback would allow Anderson to slide back into the sixth offensive lineman role, something that could be a deciding factor in the Week 11 game.

### Injury Update: Broderick Jones

On the defensive side, Steelers rookie Broderick Jones missed Wednesday’s practice with a groin injury. The team will continue to monitor his status as the week progresses.

With Seumalo’s limited participation and Jones’ injury status, the Steelers face some uncertainty but also optimism as they prepare for an important divisional showdown against Cincinnati.
