The original Apple Vision Pro, released in February 2024, arrived with plenty of hype—but also significant drawbacks. Heavy, expensive, and ultimately hard to recommend for the average consumer, the device felt magical yet impractical. For the Vision Pro to become a mainstream hit, many expected Apple to introduce meaningful tweaks and changes in subsequent versions.
However, those changes never truly materialized. Now, three years later, Apple has finally released an updated Vision Pro that addresses only a handful of longstanding concerns.
### What’s New in the Updated Vision Pro?
The biggest upgrade at the heart of the device is Apple’s new M5 chip. Already featured in the latest iPad Pro and MacBook Pro 14”, this base laptop chip delivers approximately **20% longer battery life** and noticeably faster app opening times. While snappier app launches may seem like a minor improvement, any reduction in lag is welcome—especially when you’re literally wearing your computer.
The Vision Pro also receives a **boosted refresh rate** of 120Hz, up from the previous 100Hz. Additionally, Apple has replaced the old 30W charger with a new dynamic power adapter capable of delivering anywhere between 40W and 60W, depending on the usage scenario.
### Improved Comfort
One of the more tangible upgrades comes in the form of a new **Dual Knit band**, which is now the default. This redesign promises to be notably more comfortable than the original Solo Knit band. It features extra counterweights added to the back strap to help reduce pressure on your face, alongside the addition of a top strap for better weight distribution.
Adjusting the fit involves turning a rear dial, then pulling it out one click and turning again to modify the top strap—a process that, while somewhat overengineered, gives off a mechanical watch vibe in its precision and flair.
### What Remains the Same?
Beyond these select updates, not much else has changed. The Vision Pro **looks the same**, retains **the same display and weight**, and is **just as expensive** as before. In many ways, this feels less like a true upgrade and more like a subtle refinement of one of the market’s most intriguing—but compromised—devices.
