**Christians in Nigeria React to Donald Trump’s Threat of US Military Intervention**

Christians in Nigeria have welcomed former US President Donald Trump’s recent threat to send the US military to the West African nation “guns-a-blazing,” though the country’s leaders remain wary.
Nigeria has been plagued by internal violence following a jihadist insurgency led by the extremist group Boko Haram in the northeast since 2009. Trump, 79, had already designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern,” but last week he escalated his condemnation of the situation after learning more about the ongoing conflict.
Some Christian communities see the US president’s threat as a hopeful sign, believing foreign military intervention is necessary to restore peace in their homeland.
“We see President Trump as our second God,” Christian community leader Bamshak Daniel told the *Wall Street Journal*. “We have been praying for a supernatural intervention to save the lives of our people. President Trump must make haste and carry out this military intervention.”
Daniel is based in the small town of Mangu in Plateau State, where herdsmen have slaughtered many Christians in surrounding villages this year.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu was reportedly shocked by the fiery “guns-a-blazing” rhetoric coming from the leader of one of Nigeria’s most important partners. According to the *Journal*, Tinubu was stunned when he first saw Trump’s Truth Social post during his morning routine of drinking espresso and having a doctor’s check-up.
Tinubu, a 73-year-old Muslim married to one of Nigeria’s most prominent Christian Pentecostal preachers, described Trump’s interpretation of Nigeria’s hardships as a “gross misrepresentation of the reality.”
