Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken a sharp dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call for Indians to buy indigenous products. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader questioned why the Prime Minister does not follow his own advice by using Swadeshi products himself.

“The foreign aircraft you travel on daily, why not give it up?” Kejriwal wrote in Hindi, challenging Modi’s push for self-reliance.

### Criticism of Modi’s ‘Buy Swadeshi’ Campaign

Kejriwal further criticized the Prime Minister for what he described as mere sermons without corresponding action. “People expect action, not sermons,” he said, urging Modi to take decisive steps such as shutting down American companies operating in India if he is truly serious about promoting Swadeshi products.

This criticism comes on the heels of PM Modi’s recent address to the nation, where he encouraged citizens to embrace self-reliance and reduce dependence on foreign goods.

### GST 2.0 Announcement

During his address, PM Modi also introduced a major overhaul of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, branding it ‘GST 2.0.’ The new framework simplifies tax rates primarily to two slabs: 5% and 18%. Additionally, ultra-luxury and sin goods will attract a steep 40% tax.

Calling the rollout a “GST saving festival,” Modi emphasized that the changes aim to ease the financial burden on consumers while promoting domestic consumption and production.

### Navratri Message Connects Festival and Self-Reliance

On Monday, PM Modi took to X once again to share his Navratri message, linking the auspicious festival with the spirit of self-reliance. He wrote:

*”This time, the auspicious occasion of Navratri is very special. Along with the GST savings festival, the mantra of self-reliance will gain new energy during this period.”*

The Prime Minister urged collective efforts to build a developed and self-reliant India, reinforcing the government’s focus on domestic growth and reducing reliance on imports.

As the debate between political leaders unfolds, the push for Swadeshi products remains a central theme in India’s economic discourse. Whether symbolic or substantive, the call for self-reliance continues to spark both support and criticism across the political spectrum.
