**Rangers Shut Out by Hurricanes, Home Struggles Continue at Madison Square Garden**
The New York Rangers suffered a tough 3-0 home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night, halting their three-game win streak. The defeat came on the heels of victories over the Vancouver Canucks, the Edmonton Oilers, and the Seattle Kraken.
Despite the disappointing result, head coach Mike Sullivan refrained from harshly criticizing his players. Following the game, NHL reporter Mollie Walker shared Sullivan’s comments on X. “These guys are human,” Sullivan said. “They care a lot about what’s going on. Of course, we want to be a team that prides itself on being good at home, being stingy at home, making this a tough place for people to play.”
The loss underscored the Rangers’ ongoing home struggles. The team is now 0-5-1 at Madison Square Garden this season and has managed only six goals in those six home games. In stark contrast, the Rangers have been much more effective on the road, posting a 6-1-1 record.
Carolina’s Pyotr Kochetkov was outstanding in his season debut, making 25 saves and earning the shutout. The Hurricanes got goals from Nikolaj Ehlers, Sean Walker, and Seth Jarvis, improving their own record to 8-4-0. Kochetkov came up big with a key save against J.T. Miller during a Rangers power play in the second period to preserve the shutout.
Reflecting on the loss, Sullivan noted the chances that his team generated. “I thought when you look at how the game was played in the first two periods, there was a lot to like about our game,” Sullivan said. “Some of the quality looks, I’m not sure we could get better looks. ‘Bread’ (Panarin) was in alone. J.T. (Miller) had a rebound chance right in the slot. Jonny Brodzinski had a Grade A chance right in the slot. There’s three off the top of my head.”
Sullivan is maintaining a calm and patient approach despite the Rangers’ ongoing difficulties at home. New York currently holds a 6-6-2 record, sitting fifth in the Metropolitan Division and tied with the Blue Jackets and Islanders. The Rangers average just 2.21 goals per game—near the bottom of the league—while allowing 2.43 goals per game. Adam Fox leads the team with 11 points, and Taylor Raddysh leads in goals with five.
“It’s just the way it’s going for us right now,” Sullivan said. “We’ve just got to keep fighting.” The Rangers will have an opportunity to bounce back when they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night. After that, they return home for games against the Islanders on Saturday and the Nashville Predators on Monday, hoping to finally secure a win at Madison Square Garden.
