According to today’s Power On newsletter, the next-generation iPad Pro is set to gain a subtle yet important upgrade: vapor chamber cooling. This enhancement should help future iPad Pro models maintain high performance while remaining fanless and incredibly thin.
With the M4 iPad Pro released last year, Apple already overhauled the cooling system by introducing a copper heatsink that dissipates heat through the Apple logo on the back of the tablet. However, that solution isn’t enough, and Apple plans to bring a vapor chamber cooling system to the M6 iPad Pro to push performance even further.
Apple initially debuted its vapor chamber cooling system on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which effectively eliminated overheating during normal tasks—especially benefiting gaming performance. Despite having a fan in the base model 14-inch MacBook Pro, some users have noticed that the M5 chip may be experiencing thermal throttling before reaching its peak performance. This issue is expected to grow over time.
### Vapor Chamber Cooling on the M6 iPad Pro
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the inclusion of a vapor chamber in the iPad Pro—which is even thinner than the iPad Air—is on Apple’s roadmap. The company is actively working on integrating this feature as soon as the next update cycle. Apple traditionally follows an 18-month upgrade cycle for the iPad Pro, suggesting that the vapor chamber could debut around spring 2027.
This means it’s not an imminent upgrade, especially since the M5 iPad Pro just launched last week. Nonetheless, if thermals are a major concern for you, it might be worth waiting for the early 2027 model.
There are no other significant rumors about that iPad Pro release yet, although it will likely feature the new 2nm M6 chip expected to debut in Macs later next year.
