This iconic look will put a spell on you.
Thirty-two years after *Hocus Pocus* hit theaters in 1993, actress Stephanie Faracy is rocking her iconic Madonna Halloween costume on another beloved project. The 73-year-old star originally portrayed Jenny, Max Dennison’s mom, in the Disney classic. Now, she plays Lynn, the mother of Kristen Bell’s character Joanne on the Netflix rom-com series *Nobody Wants This.*
Faracy’s red look mirrors Madonna’s famous Blond Ambition tour outfit that she wore when the Sanderson sisters performed their “I Put a Spell On You” musical number in *Hocus Pocus*. In episode six of the Netflix series, Faracy reprises the look with the signature cone bra, high ponytail, and headset — but this time, it’s all in shimmering gold.
In one memorable scene, Joanne says to Lynn, “Mom, you look insane.” Lynn responds, “Thank you, sweetie. Jewish Halloween is so fun!”

*Hocus Pocus* follows Max and his sister Dani (Thora Birch) along with their friend Allison (Vinessa Shaw), who accidentally light a magical candle that resurrects three vengeful witches — Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker), and Mary (Kathy Najimy) — on Halloween night.
Tobias Jelinek, who played the bully Jay alongside fellow bully Ice (Larry Bagby) in the original film, was not asked back for the 2022 sequel, *Hocus Pocus 2*. However, he expressed interest in reprising his role for a potential third film, which is currently in development at Disney.
“If it was done right, I know for a fact Larry would make sure we both did it,” Jelinek told *Entertainment Weekly*. He added, “I would want something with Omri and Vinessa, and we also have to get Jason Marsden in there to be the voice of [the black cat] Binx. I’d flip over that opportunity, because we’ve all become really close friends.”
In 2023, writer Jen D’Angelo revealed she was in the early stages of planning the new project. “We’re still working on it. We’ve been working on some ideas, and it’s been fun to dive back into that world. We have so many directions in which to go and so many new characters to explore,” she confessed.

In 2024, Bette Midler, now 79, urged Disney to complete the script for *Hocus Pocus 3*. Speaking on Busy Philipps’ talk show *Busy This Week*, Midler said, “I haven’t seen the script, but I’ve heard rumblings. But I haven’t seen anything.”
She added, “I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”
Midler also shared her surprise at the film’s enduring popularity, especially since it was met with mixed critical reviews upon its original release. “When it first came out, it was like… I don’t wanna use the word dud, but I will use it in this context,” she explained. “As the years went on, cumulatively, it got more and more of an audience until it became a cult classic.”
