President Donald Trump’s favorability among Hispanic voters has sharply declined over the past 10 months, according to a recent poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center. The results, released Friday and reported by The Hill, show a 19-percentage-point drop in support.

The poll found that 73 percent of Hispanic voters disapprove of how Trump is handling his job, while only 27 percent approve. This significant shift comes amid heightened scrutiny, as The Hill noted that some immigration enforcement officials have been targeting the Hispanic population for stops.

However, dissatisfaction among Hispanic voters extends beyond immigration issues. The poll revealed widespread concerns about the affordability of basic necessities nationwide. Specifically, 65 percent of Hispanic voters reported stress about the rising cost of groceries, 61 percent expressed concern over housing expenses, and 52 percent were worried about healthcare costs.

Alejandro Ochoa, a Republican who voted for Trump in the last election, shared his perspective with the AP, saying, “He was kind of relying on essentially the nostalgia of, ‘Hey, remember, before COVID? Things weren’t as expensive.’ But now it’s like, OK, you’re in office. I’m still getting done dirty at the grocery store. I’m still spending an insane amount of money. I’m trying to cut corners where I can, but that bill is still insanely expensive.”

These polling results are particularly noteworthy because an increase in Hispanic support was widely credited with helping secure Trump’s victory last November, especially in contrast to the 2020 election outcomes.
