Ex-WWE writer Vince Russo recently claimed that he played a significant role in grooming one of Triple H’s key aides to reach his current position. In this context, “groom” refers to raising, nurturing, and taking someone under one’s wing.
On the latest episode of *Writing with Russo*, host Dr. Chris Featherstone asked Vince Russo several questions, which eventually led to Russo going on a candid rant about the current state of WWE. Russo revealed that he groomed Jeremy Borash during his time in TNA, and Borash is now known as one of Triple H’s right-hand men.
> “Jeremy Borash, who is freaking Hunter’s right-hand man, was groomed by me. In TNA, it was Matt Conway, groomed by me. These were wrestling fans already working in the company, and then somebody took them under their wing. That has never happened in WWE,” Russo explained.
He went on to criticize WWE’s approach to their creative team:
> “What do they do? They look to Hollywood and hire Hollywood writers who’ve never been in a locker room, who have never had any experience in wrestling, and then you get the Bruces and the Hayes right down the line, intimidating them. So three months in, they’re getting people coffee.”
Russo emphasized that WWE faces a systematic problem that has persisted under Triple H’s regime. According to him, no one within the company seems motivated to address these deep-rooted issues.
> “The system is broken,” Russo declared.

### Triple H and WWE: An Awareness of the Issues?
Wrestling fans online generally agree that the period from August 2022 to April 2024 represented a honeymoon phase for WWE’s new regime. However, since then, the reality of the changes seems to have set in, especially regarding TKO’s increasing control over the product and the perceived decline in the quality of RAW and SmackDown throughout 2025.
Vince Russo believes WWE will never openly admit there is a problem but suspects that Triple H and his team are well aware that something is wrong.
> “They’ll never sell that it’s broken. They’ll always try to say that it’s the best it’s ever been. But they got to know. They got to know.”
Rumors of a shake-up in the SmackDown creative team might indicate some level of awareness within WWE about the current state of the show. However, backlash followed reports that Road Dogg would remain the creative head of the brand.
Still, since the shake-up, the last couple of episodes of SmackDown have received positive reviews. If WWE can sustain this momentum, it could potentially kickstart another boom period for the company.
