**Nvidia and TSMC Produce First U.S.-Made Blackwell Chip at TSMC Arizona**
Nvidia has revealed its first Blackwell chip manufactured on U.S. soil, a milestone achieved in partnership with TSMC at their Arizona facility. This development aligns with a growing push to bring semiconductor manufacturing back to the United States, driven in part by administration tariffs and onshoring pressures.
During former President Trump’s administration, one of the key focuses was to encourage domestic production. The message was clear: companies should move manufacturing operations to the U.S. or face increased tariffs on outsourcing hardware from overseas. While opinions on this approach varied, the impact was undeniable.
Now, major technology companies are beginning to embrace this shift. Nvidia’s announcement signals a potential change in how American tech products are manufactured. In a press release, Nvidia shared the news of the first-ever Blackwell wafer produced entirely in the United States.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed his excitement about the development, emphasizing its significance:
“This is a historic moment for several reasons. It’s the very first time in recent American history that the single most important chip is being manufactured here in the United States by the most advanced fab, by TSMC, here in the United States. This is the vision of President Trump of reindustrialization to bring back manufacturing to America, to create jobs, of course, but also, this is the single most vital manufacturing industry and the most important technology industry in the world.”
Echoing this sentiment, Ray Chuang, CEO of TSMC Arizona, reflected on the collaboration:
“To go from arriving in Arizona to delivering the first U.S.-made NVIDIA Blackwell chip in just a few short years represents the very best of TSMC. This milestone is built on three decades of partnership with NVIDIA pushing the boundaries of technology together and on the unwavering dedication of our employees and the local partners who helped to make TSMC Arizona possible.”
The production of Blackwell chips in the U.S. sets the stage for America to strengthen its position as a global hub for AI hardware manufacturing. Beyond advancing technology, this move is expected to create local jobs and contribute to the broader goal of revitalizing American manufacturing industries.
