On Wednesday, October 8, actress Rani Mukerji met with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer during his visit to the Yash Raj Films (YRF) studio located in Mumbai’s Andheri suburb, a key hub of Bollywood production. The production house is owned by her husband, Aditya Chopra.
During the visit, Rani Mukerji joined Prime Minister Starmer for a special film screening, where they watched a movie together, highlighting the collaborative spirit between the Indian film industry and the UK.
**Yash Raj Films to Expand Productions Across the UK**
Yash Raj Films has confirmed plans to bring their major film productions to various locations across the United Kingdom starting early 2026. To mark this significant announcement, PM Starmer visited the Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai accompanied by a delegation of some of Britain’s leading film organizations, including the British Film Institute, British Film Commission, Pinewood Studios, Elstree Studios, and Civic Studios.
The visit comes just days before Yash Raj Studios celebrates 20 years of operations in India on October 12, marking two decades of cinematic excellence.
**Strengthening UK-India Film Industry Ties**
In an official statement, Yash Raj Films’ CEO Akshaye Widhani expressed deep appreciation for the UK’s contribution to their work. He said, “The UK holds a very special place in our hearts and some of our most iconic films, including *Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge* (DDLJ), were shot in this beautiful and incredibly hospitable country.”
Widhani added, “It is truly special to reignite YRF and UK’s filming ties on the 30th anniversary of DDLJ — a film that is synonymous with UK-India’s relationship. Our company is currently producing the stage adaptation of DDLJ, an English musical titled *Come Fall in Love* (CFIL), in the UK as well.”
He further emphasized, “We are thrilled to join hands with the UK again and return to filming in the country that has always been extremely kind to us. The UK’s infrastructure, technology, and talent are unmatched, and we are delighted to deepen our cultural ties with a country that has always empowered us to excel creatively.”
