Out of the total 20 fatalities, 17 children died in Chhindwara, one in Pandhurna, and two in Betul. Additionally, five children remain hospitalized in critical condition in Nagpur.
The government has announced that the owner of the company behind the accused product, Coldrif, will be arrested soon. Police teams have already been dispatched to Chennai and Kanchipuram to apprehend him.
Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Rajendra Shukla confirmed the grim figures and emphasized the government’s strict approach to the matter. “Twenty children have lost their lives in this unfortunate incident,” he said. The Chhindwara police team has reached Chennai and Kanchipuram as part of the ongoing efforts to bring the accused to justice.
Addressing the ongoing Indian Medical Association (IMA) doctors’ strike, Shukla urged the medical professionals not to halt their services. Instead, he encouraged them to focus on their duties and adhere to the government and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) advisory, which strongly advises against administering cough syrup to children under four years of age.
Shukla also shared details of his recent visit to Nagpur, where five children remain hospitalized in critical condition. He met with their families and assessed the situation, assuring that every possible effort is being made to save the young patients.
In the last 24 hours, three more children have died while undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Nagpur:
– Dhani Deharia (1.5 years) from Tamia
