Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has once again found herself at the center of controversy. The latest uproar follows Markle sharing a video on her Instagram Stories showing her car passing by the Pont Alexandre III and Pont des Invalides in Paris. Notably, the route appeared to pass near the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, the location where Princess Diana was fatally injured in a car accident on August 31, 1997.

### Social Media Backlash

Markle’s video sparked a strong reaction on social media platforms. One user on X (formerly Twitter) remarked, “If driving toward Princess Diana’s death scene is a message to Prince William, then Meghan Markle is the devil.” Another questioned the motivation behind filming such a sensitive location, asking, “Why would she film the place his mother died? Moreover, why would she post it on social media for the world to see? Why?”

### Expert Commentary

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams weighed in on the incident, describing Markle’s actions as “utterly bewildering” and “insensitive beyond belief.” Speaking to the *Daily Mail*, Fitzwilliams expressed his confusion: “I don’t understand what on earth she was thinking, well, she can’t have been thinking. No adviser would ever advise doing something so strange.”

He further reflected on the impact of Diana’s death on Prince Harry, stating, “Her death had scarred so much of Harry’s life. I couldn’t imagine the Duke of Sussex finding the post very appropriate.”

### Remembering Diana’s Tragic Death

Princess Diana was 36 years old when she tragically died in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. The crash occurred after her driver, Henri Paul, who was later found to have alcohol and prescription drugs in his system, allegedly sped to evade pursuing paparazzi on motorbikes. The Mercedes-Benz they were traveling in collided with a pillar inside the tunnel.

Despite being rushed to Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, Diana succumbed to her injuries. At the time, Princes William and Harry were just 15 and 12 years old, respectively, grappling with the sudden loss of their mother.

The recent controversy highlights the continuing sensitivity surrounding the legacy of Princess Diana and the challenges faced by members of the royal family in navigating public perception.
