Why is our council so anti-car? – Letter

It is not surprising when one considers the catalogue of actions by this council that have made driving in and around the city so complicated for the general car user.

Several of these actions have been reversed, including the Portswood Bus Gate, following strong public protests.

I would like to add the section of Portland Street, which is barred to the general motoring public, to the protest list. This street was originally a relief road around High Street and Above Bar Street.

Additionally, East Park Terrace should be added to the protest list as another unnecessary anti-car inconvenience.

Nowadays, a great deal of pre-planning is required before venturing into Southampton to ensure you arrive at the right place with the minimum inconvenience. It is no wonder that the M27 serves as a convenient bypass to the city.

One can only hope that if and when we get an alternative administration in power, some common sense will prevail.
