**Bad Weather Forces Suspension of Vaishno Devi Yatra**

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has temporarily suspended the Vaishno Devi yatra from October 5 to 7, 2025, following an inclement weather advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Pilgrims have been advised to stay updated through official channels regarding the resumption of the yatra, which is expected to resume on October 8.

This suspension is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding devotees against potential natural calamities such as landslides, cloudbursts, and floods prompted by severe weather conditions.

**Past Incidents and Yatra Suspensions**

Earlier this year, on August 26, the Vaishno Devi yatra was suspended due to a landslide on the trekking route to the temple. The tragic incident resulted in 34 fatalities and left 20 individuals injured. After extensive safety assessments and restoration efforts, the pilgrimage resumed on September 17, marking a 22-day suspension.

Despite these disruptions, over 170,000 pilgrims visited the shrine during the Navratri festival period, reflecting the enduring faith and devotion of the visitors.

**Additional Suspension: Machail Mata Pilgrimage**

Alongside the Vaishno Devi yatra, the Machail Mata pilgrimage in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir has also been suspended for three days starting October 5. This decision comes in response to the same weather advisory issued by the IMD.

The meteorological department has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir from October 5 to 7. An active western disturbance is expected to affect the region, bringing widespread rains and snow in higher altitudes, leading authorities to impose these precautionary suspensions.
