**Indian Women’s Cricket Team Star Jemimah Rodrigues Eyes 2025 World Cup Glory**
The Indian women’s cricket team has made a stellar start to their Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign, and star batter Jemimah Rodrigues has shared the team’s aspiration to win the title for all the pioneers of women’s cricket in India.
The Women in Blue kicked off their tournament with back-to-back wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. In a commanding performance on Sunday at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, India defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan by a huge margin of 88 runs.
**Team Spirit Behind the Success**
Speaking about the team’s unity and spirit, Rodrigues praised captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana for fostering a strong, supportive environment. “We have created such an environment that everyone will go out there and give their lives out,” she said confidently.
Rodrigues also emphasized that the team’s motivation to win the trophy goes beyond current leaders. “We want to win it not just for ourselves but also for former greats like Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami, who laid the foundation for women’s cricket in India,” she added.
**Remembering the Legends**
Reflecting on the journey of Indian women’s cricket, Jemimah recalled the impact of the legends. “Yeah, I mean, first it was Mithu di (Mithali Raj) and Julhu di (Jhulan Goswami). I remember when I entered the team,” she said.
She continued, “We want to do it also for them, for Mithu di, for Jhulu di, for Neetu David ma’am, for all those people who have brought women’s cricket to where it is today.”
**Match Highlights: Jemimah’s Important Contribution**
After a disappointing golden duck in the opening game against Sri Lanka, Jemimah made a strong comeback against Pakistan. She scored 32 runs off 37 balls, including five boundaries, and built vital partnerships with Harmanpreet Kaur (19 off 34) and Harleen Deol (46 off 65).
Thanks to her innings and a late flourish by Richa Ghosh—who scored a quickfire 35 off 20 balls—India posted a competitive total of 247 runs.
**Bowling Performance: India’s Attack Shines**
India’s bowlers too played a crucial role in the victory. Kranti Gaud was named Player of the Match after taking impressive figures of 3 wickets for 20 runs. Deepti Sharma also made a significant impact with 3 wickets for 45 runs in 9 overs.
For Pakistan, Sidra Amin top-scored with 81 runs off 106 balls but was unable to prevent her side from being bowled out for just 159 runs.
**India Tops the Points Table**
Following these successive wins, India now leads the points table with four points. The team will be aiming to maintain their winning momentum when they face South Africa next on October 9 in Visakhapatnam.
With team spirit high and strong performances across the board, India looks well poised to chase their dream of lifting the Women’s World Cup 2025 trophy.
