Aviation Watchdog DGCA Monitoring Airfares & Flight Capacities For Festive Season, Ensuring Stable Ticket Prices

New Delhi: The aviation watchdog Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is maintaining rigorous oversight on airfares and flight capacities for the upcoming festive season to ensure there are no steep hikes in air ticket prices.

During festive seasons, when demand surges, there have been instances of increased domestic airfares, especially on high-traffic routes. While airfares are deregulated, the DGCA has the mandate to monitor ticket prices closely and take appropriate measures if there is a significant surge.

The Civil Aviation Ministry, in a statement released on Sunday, said that the DGCA has reviewed airfare trends ahead of the festive rush and has proactively directed airlines to augment flight capacities to meet the high demand. “DGCA will maintain rigorous oversight of airline fares and flight capacities to protect passengers’ interests during the festive season,” the ministry stated.

According to the release, several airlines including IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, and SpiceJet will be operating additional flights to accommodate the increased passenger flow.

– IndiGo will operate around 730 additional services across 42 sectors.
– Air India and Air India Express combined will add about 486 additional flights on 20 sectors.
– SpiceJet plans to run approximately 546 additional flights across 38 sectors.

However, the release did not specify the duration for which these additional flights will be operated or the exact start date for the extra services.
