Guru Tegh Bahadur Anniversary: Punjab To Hold First-Ever Assembly Session At Anandpur Sahib On Nov 24

Chandigarh: The Punjab government will hold a special assembly session at Anandpur Sahib, district Ropar, on November 24 to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. This marks the first time in the state’s history that a special assembly session is being proposed outside the state capital, Chandigarh.

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, briefing the media on Friday, outlined a series of programmes planned to honor the occasion. These include nagar kirtans, kirtan darbars, light and sound shows, drone displays, and major religious gatherings at Anandpur Sahib.

The celebrations will begin with four nagar kirtans starting from different parts of the country. One procession will commence from Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir) on November 18 at Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi. The other three will originate from the Malwa region (Faridkot and Bathinda), as well as the Majha and Doaba regions. All four processions are scheduled to converge at Anandpur Sahib on the evening of November 22.

According to Minister Bains, the official commencement of the events will be marked by an Ardaas at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Delhi on October 25, followed by a kirtan darbar the same evening at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, Delhi. The primary celebrations will then shift to Anandpur Sahib, running from November 23 to 25.

To accommodate the expected influx of devotees, a tent city capable of hosting over 10,000 people daily will be established at Anandpur Sahib from November 19 to 30.

Punjab will also witness its first-ever large-scale drone shows depicting the life and martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur. In addition, a special nagar kirtan will be organized from Kiratpur Sahib.

Furthermore, from November 1 to 18, all 23 districts of Punjab will host light and sound shows focusing on the life of the 9th Guru and his disciples, enhancing the statewide spirit of remembrance and devotion.
