Teen who threatened Fortnite devs pleads guilty, faces five years in federal prison
There is literally no video game out now or coming in the future that’s worth throwing your life away for—and that’s the regrettable lesson one teenager is learning firsthand.
Nineteen-year-old Jayden Griffin has pleaded guilty to threatening to kill the developers of Fortnite and is now facing federal prison time.
According to court documents, a grand jury charged Griffin in December 2024 with sending electronic death threats from North Carolina to Epic Games between October 24, 2024, and November 9, 2024. These threats were deemed serious enough to constitute a threat to interstate commerce.
Initially, Griffin entered a not guilty plea in January 2025 but changed his plea to guilty earlier this week.
In a court statement preceding his guilty plea, Griffin admitted, “I sent messages to Epic Games, where I threatened to kill employees of the company. I intended for the messages to be viewed as a threat at the time that I sent the messages.”
Griffin now faces up to five years in federal prison, fines up to $250,000, or both. Additionally, he could be subject to a period of supervised release lasting up to three years. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
Once again, it bears repeating: There is literally no video game available now or coming in the future that’s worth throwing your life away for.
