PCB revokes NOCs for overseas T20 leagues: Here’s why

**PCB Suspends NOCs for Players Participating in Overseas T20 Leagues**

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the suspension of all No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players taking part in overseas T20 leagues. This decision, revealed by PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed on September 29, impacts prominent players including Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and others who regularly feature in tournaments like the Big Bash League and ILT20.

**Background and Impact**

The move comes in the wake of Pakistan’s narrow defeat to India in the final of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. Despite a strong tournament run where Pakistan lost only three matches—all to India—and reducing India to 20/3 while defending a total of 146 in the final, the team fell short of clinching the title.

Following this loss, PCB issued a notice stating:
*”With the approval of Chairman PCB, all No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players with respect to participation in leagues and other out-of-country tournaments are hereby put on hold until further orders.”*

This suspension is widely viewed as a response to Pakistan’s performance at the Asia Cup and reflects the board’s intention to prioritize national duties and performance.

**Towards a Performance-Based NOC System**

Reports indicate that the PCB plans to implement a performance-based system to regulate the issuance of NOCs in the future. However, specific criteria and guidelines for this system have not yet been disclosed.

Additionally, Pakistan’s premier domestic First-Class competition, originally scheduled for September 22, has been postponed and is now set to begin in October. This domestic focus may be part of the board’s strategy to strengthen the national team’s core.

Further details regarding the duration of the NOC suspension, possible exemptions, and related policies are still awaited, with ESPNcricinfo highlighting that the full scope of this decision remains unclear.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as Pakistan’s cricket landscape adapts post-Asia Cup 2025.
