**Golden Arrow Division Commemorates Diamond Jubilee of 1965 Victory at Asal Uttar**
The Golden Arrow Division of the Indian Army’s Vajra Corps on Tuesday commemorated the Diamond Jubilee of India’s victory against Pakistan in the 1965 War at Asal Uttar, Punjab, reported news agency ANI.
Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, the chief guest, attended the event along with Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command. Other military commanders, war veterans, Veer Naris, civil dignitaries, students, and a large gathering of local citizens were also present, according to the Government of India.
During the commemoration, tribute was paid to the gallant soldiers of the Battle of Asal Uttar and the Battle of Barki. Their indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice played a pivotal role in turning the tide of the 1965 War in India’s favour, ANI reported.
Special homage was paid to Company Quarter Master Havildar (CQMH) Abdul Hamid, Param Vir Chakra (Posthumous), whose unmatched bravery in destroying advanced enemy tanks, along with his ultimate sacrifice, continues to inspire future generations.
In his address, Governor Kataria expressed his gratitude to the Indian Army for its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and preserving India’s proud military heritage. He highlighted the inauguration of the Archives-cum-Museum and Hamid Gallery, which would not only immortalise the heroes of 1965 but also serve as a source of education, knowledge, and inspiration for future generations.
The governor further lauded the army and the Indian National Trust for Art & Cultural Heritage (INTACH) for their initiative to promote border tourism and strengthen the bond between citizens and soldiers.
Emphasising the trust the nation places in the Indian Army, Governor Kataria noted the army’s preparedness to meet any future challenges, whether traditional or emerging. “As India marches ahead into the era of Amrit Kaal, the Army will continue to play a pivotal role in ensuring national security, fostering unity, and inspiring the youth to dedicate themselves to the service of the Nation with courage, discipline, and integrity,” he added.
During the event, war veterans and Veer Naris were honoured in recognition of their sacrifices. The newly inaugurated archives/museum will serve as a permanent repository of the 1965 War, preserving history, artefacts, and stories of valour for posterity.
The Hamid Gallery, dedicated to the memory of CQMH Abdul Hamid, Param Vir Chakra (PVC), was also opened to the public as a mark of gratitude to one of India’s bravest and most fearless heroes.
Additionally, a 72-foot high national flag was hoisted at the War Memorial by Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM.
The Centre stated that the Diamond Jubilee celebrations at Asal Uttar reinforced the enduring bond between the armed forces and Indian citizens.
