**PMRDA Issues Formal Cancellation Notification of August 2021 Draft Development Plan**
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has officially issued a formal cancellation notification for the draft Development Plan (DP) of August 2021. According to Yogesh Mhase, PMRDA Commissioner, “The official notification has been issued and sent to the government press for publication in the state gazette.”
In April this year, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis approved the cancellation of the DP plan. Following this decision, the Bombay High Court dismissed the petitions filed against the DP draft. With the issuance of the cancellation notification, PMRDA has now completed the closure process of the draft plan.
The draft DP plan was the result of an extensive eight-year process undertaken by PMRDA. This involved approximately 6,000 consultations and aimed to outline Pune’s development for the next 20 years. Despite the merging of several villages into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), residents of these areas have not seen significant development due to the absence of a valid Draft Development Plan.
The draft DP faced numerous objections, particularly concerning land reservations and future proposals. These objections led to the Bombay High Court halting its implementation. Consequently, the state government has directed PMRDA to prepare a fresh draft plan.
Commissioner Mhase has confirmed that the existing Regional Plan will remain in effect until the new draft development plan is finalized. “A new structural plan will be published soon, focusing on land reservations for the future and road infrastructure,” he added.
The upcoming plan is expected to address Pune’s emerging challenges, including rapid urbanization, infrastructure mismatches, and transportation issues. It will also incorporate the demands and recommendations of local residents to ensure sustainable and inclusive development in the region.
