Houston Rockets All-Star Kevin Durant recently reached the impressive milestone of 31,000 career points, prompting ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins to hail him as the greatest scorer in NBA history. With 31,024 points, Durant now ranks as the eighth leading scorer in NBA history.
Durant is closing in on Hall of Fame greats Wilt Chamberlain (31,419 points) and Dirk Nowitzki (31,560 points), who hold the seventh and sixth spots, respectively. Both milestones are well within reach for Durant this season.
Perkins made a strong case for Durant as the greatest scorer the NBA has ever seen, highlighting KD’s remarkable shooting efficiency. Speaking on ESPN’s Road Trippin, Perkins said, “He’s the greatest of all time. Mr. 50/40/90. The greatest f****** scorer I ever seen is Kevin Durant.”
This season, Durant is averaging 25.2 points on 50.2% shooting, including 38.6% from three-point range, and 88.6% from the free-throw line for the Rockets. He is also contributing 5.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. With a 15-5 record, the Rockets currently hold the second-best record in the Western Conference.
Rockets head coach Ime Udoka also praised Durant’s scoring prowess after reaching the 31,000-point milestone. Reflecting on his matchups against Durant as a player, Udoka shared how Durant has evolved over the years.
“It’s incredible. I played against him his rookie year and a few times after,” Udoka said. “I remember him coming in. They try to guard him the same way now—be physical with him, take him off the ball—and he’s learned to adapt, adjust, and he’s seen everything. To be able to do this with the longevity, and at this high level, efficiency-wise as well, it’s an incredible career.”
Udoka added, “Long way to go, but we just gave him some kudos. He’ll pass a few more guys and get a few more thousand [points].”
Durant and the Rockets will look to continue their strong season as they prepare to host the Dallas Mavericks this Saturday.
