A traffic accident along U. S. Highway 72 in Limestone County has claimed the life of an Athens man. According to Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Donald E. McGregory, 77, was critically injured when the 2003 Ford Ranger that he was driving left the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned. The accident occurred at approximately 12: 04 p. m. on Thursday, November 20 on Highway 72 near Popular Creek Road, approximately five miles west of Athens. Troopers said McGregory was transported to Athens Limestone Hospital to receive treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. No additional information has been made available by ALEA as Troopers with the agency’s Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the accident.
