When it comes to his wife, simply put, John Tesh is grateful. The musician and broadcast presenter recently spoke about his cancer battle. Fortunately, he detailed how his wife, Connie Sellecca, helped save his life by making sure he received the proper care. In an interview with People, Tesh shared that he was battling through “the heat of” his cancer journey when his thought of two friends who might be of some help. The 73 year old was diagnosed with stage III prostate cancer in 2015, where his doctors broke the news to him that his tumors were inoperable. As a result, he was informed that he might only have 18 months to live. Unrattled by the jarring news, Tesh jumped into action and conducted his own research. He stumbled upon an expert who was confident in his ability to perform the surgery. After a successful radical prostatectomy, Tesh was under the impression that his worst days of cancer were over. But when an MRI was done in 2017, it showed that cancer had spread to the lymph nodes of his pelvis. Enter Connie, who came with a suggestion. “She had met [these two friends] in New York when she was a model, like 52 years ago, and she kept in touch with them and so when I was at my wits’ end and couldn’t find the right treatment for this very rare form of prostate cancer, she contacted them and they said, ‘You gotta come here to MD Anderson,’ ” he explained. It was obvious to Tesh that MD Anderson had a lot “more experience” because they were treating over 1, 000 cases like his, compared to the 50-100 cases other hospitals were wrestling with. Instead of treating just the cancer, MD Anderson goes above and beyond by treating “the whole body.” Fast forward to now, Tesh is keeping an eye on the progression of the disease with his doctors at MD Anderson. In fact, the radio presenter recently spoke at a fundraiser for MD Anderson, and in Tesh’s opinion, he owes his life to the exceptional care he received.
