A seven-month-old Great Dane-Corgi mix has captured the internet’s attention after a Reddit user began documenting the pup’s remarkable journey from birth to early adulthood. The unlikely crossbreed has become a fan favorite across the platform, but behind the viral photos is a candid story from the owner-who says the entire litter resulted from an accident that “should have never happened.” The American Kennel Club states the Pembroke Welsh Corgi “presents a big dog in a small package,” at 10 to 12 inches at the shoulder and 27 to 30 pounds. By comparison, female Great Danes typically stand 28-30 inches and 110-140 lbs. Despite that staggering size gap, the owner explained how her Great Dane, Clementine, unexpectedly gave birth to nine puppies. All but one have since been adopted and user u/WinterBadger who has two Reddit accounts, regularly shares updates online. The most recent post shared on November 18 features a slideshow of photos showing a pup with white and brown patches, who is already “taller” than her corgi. In another post shared to her other account u/punnyname89, she explained that the vet expects the Great Dane-Corgi puppies to grow to around 55 to 70 pound. “What’s so interesting to me is that none of them came out with longer legs,” said one user and another wrote: “This looks like a genetic disaster but he is so cute.” Their journey has been well-documented and the owner has said multiples times that the crossbreed was an accident “This litter was a mistake. It should have never happened,” she wrote. “Not because every one of these babies isn’t absolutely perfect just as they are but because there are hundreds of thousands of unhoused dogs that need loving homes and there are dozens of fully ethical breeders who are spending thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours trying to better the temperament and health of their breed and here I am with two Merle breeds with a history of hip issues with no health testing.” How the Accident Happened 1 of 2 After the latest viral photo of the now 7-month-old mix resurfaced, one commenter asked the question many others were thinking: “How in the height difference can this happen accidentally?” The owner responded: “The best guess is she was laying down. She was in a diaper at all times and he was kennelled when I wasn’t home. I literally asked the same thing a million times because I just can’t wrap my head around it and quote a few people have told me they’ve seen females literally lay down for males while they are in kennels. Regardless, it’s my fault and I should have been more careful.” The woman states the male was neutered when the pups were four weeks old. Clementine’s Recovery As the puppies gradually moved on to new homes, Clementine returned to her usual routine. According to the owner, she noticed the litter was getting smaller but it didn’t affect her mood. She wrote: “Clementine is a GREAT mom but I would have never WANTED her to be a mom. She’s a very jealous girl who wants all of my attention. Her favorite thing in the world is laying on the couch with her head in my lap. “With the puppies. she has had to share a LOT of that. And she’s been incredibly patient and loving but I think she is happy to be getting more time back slowly but surely.” The Reddit user continues to share updates on the now-adolescent mix, whose striking appearance has kept the internet captivated. Newsweek reached out to u/WinterBadger for comment. We could not verify the details of the case.
