Timothée Chalamet and Adam Sandler recently joined forces for an engaging conversation about their careers and crafts in the Fairfax High School gymnasium in Los Angeles. The event, dubbed “Sandler x Chalamet,” took place on the evening of November 15, attracting a packed audience eager to hear from the two acclaimed actors.
During the evening, Chalamet and Sandler reviewed and discussed clips from their respective filmographies, including sneak peeks of their upcoming releases “Marty Supreme” and “Jay Kelly.” One standout moment came when they watched a clip of Sandler from Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2006 romantic dramedy, *Punch Drunk Love*. Chalamet praised Sandler’s performance, calling it “one of the most important performances. It’s impactful, deeply moving.”
“As a young actor knowing you for your comedic work, seeing that thrown against the context of your other work, I’m like, ‘Wow, this is a fucking incredible actor. I hope I can give a performance like this,’” Chalamet added.
Continuing his admiration, Chalamet said, “I know it’s not about awards, blah, blah, blah, but you should have a golden man in your hand, because, man, you’re one of the best fucking actors of all time.”
Sandler responded warmly, telling Chalamet, “What you continue to do for cinema and for all of us is beyond it all. I just cannot wait to see what you bring in the future.”
The event featured additional clips, including Sandler’s roles in *Big Daddy* and *Uncut Gems*, as well as Chalamet’s performances in *Call Me By Your Name*, *Dune: Part 2*, and *A Complete Unknown*. Audience members also got a glimpse at upcoming footage from *Marty Supreme* and *Jay Kelly*, alongside clips of both actors appearing in *Saturday Night Live* sketches.
Although the two stars have never appeared in a film together, Chalamet shared that he was once in a cut scene from Jason Reitman’s *Men, Women & Children* (2014), which starred Sandler. Reflecting on that, Sandler recalled, “I remember when Jason Reitman was talking about you being in it, he said to me, ‘Oh, I got this kid playing the quarterback. He’s coming. He’s incredible.’ He like, knew.”
Throughout the evening, the pair broke down each other’s scenes, reminisced about their respective times on *SNL*, and joked about their shared hobbies of basketball and guitar. Their signature wit and camaraderie kept the atmosphere lively and entertaining.
To cap off the night, two audience members were invited to join Sandler and Chalamet for a friendly game of 2-on-2 half-court basketball.
