Lionsgate’s third outing with the Four Horsemen conjured a $75.5 million global opening this weekend. Of that total, $54.2 million came from 64 international box office markets. The magic extended to No. 1 spots in 40 of those offshore hubs, including a surprisingly solid start in China with $21.7 million, according to Maoyan, where Leomus handles distribution.
The next best-performing regions were the CIS (Pasatiempo) with $6.9 million, Latin America grossing $5.5 million as a region (awaiting a detailed breakdown), France (SND) at $3.5 million, and the UK (Lionsgate UK) with $3.2 million.
Another major opener, Paramount’s *The Running Man*, kicked off overseas with an $11.2 million debut across 58 markets (including previews). The global debut was $28.2 million, with the international box office representing 65% of that total. France, Brazil, and Spain are scheduled for release next week, followed by Korea on December 4, China on December 5, and Japan on January 30.
The top opening market for *The Running Man* was the UK, debuting at No. 2 with $3.3 million, followed by Germany at No. 3 with $1.1 million. Other notable openings include Australia (No. 2, $1 million), Mexico (No. 3, $659K), and the UAE (No. 1, $391K).
Last week’s box office champion, 20th Century Studios/Disney’s *Predator: Badlands*, added $16.1 million overseas, bringing its international box office total to $70 million. Globally, the film has now amassed $136.3 million, making it the third biggest in the franchise at current rates and excluding Russia. Offshore, it ranks as the second-best in the series.
The international drop was 54%, excluding China, where the film held well during midweek. The top five international markets to date are China ($12.7 million), the UK ($5.6 million), Mexico ($4 million), France ($3.7 million), and Japan ($3.3 million).
Meanwhile, *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle* was finally released in China, where it grossed 373 million RMB ($52.5 million), according to Maoyan. Within the market, the IMAX cumulative gross reached $12.3 million, accounting for 24% of the nationwide total.
Distributed locally by Maoyan, the Japanese anime juggernaut delivered the highest IMAX opening weekend box office gross, attendance, and indexing ever for a Japanese title in China. It also notched the second-biggest IMAX debut for an animated film ever in China, behind only *Ne Zha 2*.
Overall, *Demon Slayer* holds a Sony cumulative worldwide gross of $349.5 million.
