It is probably too early to say anything definitive, but it sure sounds like Aaron Rodgers could miss the Week 12 showdown between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Chicago Bears.

Rodgers suffered what appears to be a serious wrist injury during the first half of the Steelers’ win against the Cincinnati Bengals. ESPN reports that Pittsburgh’s initial concern is that Rodgers may have sustained a broken wrist. Although it is an injury to his non-throwing hand, it sounds quite severe. At a minimum, the injury was enough to keep him from returning for the second half, despite his best efforts to get back on the field.

Aaron Rodgers has indicated to people close to him that he’ll be back soon. Initial testing would support that, but more evaluations are forthcoming.

I’ve had the Bears-Steelers Week 12 game circled on my calendar since the NFL schedules came out back in May. The dream of getting one last crack at taking down Aaron Rodgers gave me something to write about in the offseason and eventually look forward to in November. That we might not get that chance because of an injury isn’t something I thought the NFL script-writers would cook up. Who saw this coming?

**Will Aaron Rodgers play despite a potential broken wrist?**

Well, well, well. Isn’t that convenient? Either Aaron Rodgers will successfully avoid a Bears team that will enter Sunday’s Week 12 action with a 7-3 record, or he will play through an injury that could complicate his efforts to hand his long-time rivals another loss. The narratives surrounding this guy when Chicago’s football team is in play are something else.

In any case, I will be curious to see what the upcoming tests show, how much Rodgers will participate in this week’s practice, and what his status will look like when the injury reports drop later this week.

If Aaron Rodgers is unable to play against the Bears in Week 12, it will most likely be Mason Rudolph stepping in as the starter. Rudolph completed 12 of 16 passes, threw for 127 yards, tossed a touchdown, and posted a 118.5 passer rating in relief of Rodgers during the Steelers’ 34-12 win against the Bengals.

For what it’s worth, Rudolph has 31 games of experience (18 starts) with the Steelers (2019-23, 2025) and the Tennessee Titans (2024). The Oklahoma State product has never faced the Bears or squared off against a Dennis Allen-led defense. But if Rodgers can’t play, all signs seem to be pointing toward Rudolph getting that opportunity in Week 12.

Stay tuned.
