Another Series Bites the Dust: *English Teacher* Canceled After Two Seasons

Deadline reports that the sitcom *English Teacher* will not be returning for a third season. The news of the cancellation comes about a month and a half after Season 2 was released.

Created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, *English Teacher* follows high school teacher Evan Marquez as he navigates the professional, political, and personal challenges of working at a high school. The series also features Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colantoni, Sean Patton, and Carmen Christopher.

*English Teacher* premiered in September 2024 on FX and received rave reviews. The first season earned an impressive 99% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Season 2 achieving a perfect 100%. The show has also received nominations from the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, Satellite Awards, and Television Critics Association Awards.

A reason for the cancellation has not been disclosed. The series was renewed for a second season in February, shortly after allegations surfaced claiming that Alvarez was assaulted by his former friend and collaborator, Jon Ebeling, during the filming of a web series several years ago. Alvarez’s lawyer has denied these claims. It remains unclear if these allegations played any role in the series’ cancellation, but the possibility cannot be ruled out.

*English Teacher* is executive produced by Brian Jordan Alvarez, Paul Simms, Jonathan Krisel, Dave King, Kathryn Dean, Jake Bender, and Zach Dunn. The series is produced by FX Productions.

While *English Teacher* has come to an end, FX continues to invest in other series. The network recently renewed *Alien: Earth* for Season 2, *Adults* for Season 2, and *The Bear* for Season 5, among others.

At this time, it is unknown whether *English Teacher* will be shopped around to other networks or streaming platforms. For now, the show’s “classes” are over. However, fans can still stream both seasons of *English Teacher* on Hulu.

Cancellations are always tough, especially for a successful show. Still, two seasons are better than one, even if the series had a relatively short run. Fortunately, FX offers plenty of other shows to enjoy, with more new content on the way.

For viewers interested in school-set comedies, *Abbott Elementary* is returning with its fifth season this January. All four previous seasons, along with the first half of Season 5, are available to stream on Hulu.
