Chicago Bears head coach spoke to the media today and delivered some refreshing news: he expects cornerback Jaylon Johnson to return this season.
CHGO’s Adam Hoge asked the Bears head coach about Jaylon Johnson and fellow injured cornerback Kyler Gordon:
“We should be able to get the back at some point at the end of the season here,” Johnson said. “But kind of to-be-determined on when those clocks will start ticking here. I just saw Jaylon in the weight room. He’s excited about where he is right now, and he’s hopeful he’ll be out on the practice field here in the near future.”

### Ben Johnson Expects Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon to Return
As Luis wrote earlier, Jaylon Johnson was recently spotted in the weight room on social media. Hearing his head coach confirm that a return down the stretch is in the works is music to the ears of Bears fans who have watched the team’s injury-ravaged secondary struggle in recent weeks.
Johnson has been battling injuries throughout the year, missing most of training camp before making his debut in Chicago’s Week 2 loss to the Detroit Lions. Unfortunately, he re-aggravated a nagging groin injury that had kept him out to that point. Johnson was ruled “out indefinitely” in mid-September, then placed on injured reserve (IR) shortly after.
In October, speaking on 670 The Score after undergoing core muscle surgery, Johnson shared an update:
> “Everything went well, I had surgery two weeks ago, but I’m feeling good, moving around a lot better. Just looking forward to making the progress each and every week. No matter what happens, unless you suffer a very significant injury where you know your season is over, but for myself, the biggest thing for me is to get healthy as quick as I can. I’m not putting a time on anything, I’m not going to say I’ll be good in weeks or months, it’s just about going day-by-day. Clearly soft tissue injuries stem from other things a lot of the time, for me it’s trying to figure out where mine stem from.”

### Kyler Gordon’s Short-Term IR Status
It’s also worth noting that Ben Johnson confirmed fellow cornerback Kyler Gordon’s IR stint will be a short-term one.

Gordon was placed on injured reserve in October due to groin and calf injuries and is eligible to return ahead of the Bears’ Week 12 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
While Johnson confirmed Gordon’s stay on IR would be the minimum four weeks, it’s still too early to circle the Steelers game on the calendar. The next step is seeing Gordon return to practice and for his 21-day return window to open. This is likely the first step toward Chicago’s secondary getting closer to full strength as they head into the season’s stretch run.
Bears fans will certainly be hopeful that both Johnson and Gordon can return soon, bolstering a defense in desperate need of reinforcements.
