Pikmin 4 Update Version 1.1.0 Launches with Photo Mode, New Difficulty Levels, and More

The previously teased update for Pikmin 4 has officially launched, bringing a variety of exciting new features to the game on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Version 1.1.0 introduces a range of enhancements including a brand-new Field Camera that lets players take and decorate pictures of the vibrant world of Pikmin, new “Décor Pikmin” that can be discovered through the camera, and much more.

Surprise, surprise! The update, which was promised earlier this month, is now live and packed with content that will enhance your gameplay experience. Whether you want to start a fresh adventure while carrying over progress or explore the world through a camera lens, this update has something for every Pikmin fan.

New Features in Pikmin 4 Update 1.1.0

Nintendo rolled out the Version 1.1.0 update this week, accompanied by full patch notes detailing all the changes and additions. This update had been teased weeks ago but without a specific release date—until now.

Here are the highlights:

Field Camera and Photo Mode:
Starting from the morning of day 2 in-game, you can use the new Field Camera to take pictures and decorate them with stamps and frames. If you resume a save from before the update, the camera will be added when you return to the Rescue Command Post and a new day begins.

Décor Pikmin:
A new type of Pikmin — Décor Pikmin — has appeared in the story. After rescuing the Rescue Corps Ranger Dingo, you can use the Field Camera to capture these unique Pikmin. Once added to your squad, the data for Décor Pikmin can be shared with the mobile game Pikmin Bloom, allowing you to receive seedlings of the same Décor Pikmin in the app. Be sure your Nintendo Account ID is the same between Pikmin 4 and Pikmin Bloom to enable this feature.

New Activity Levels:
Players can now select from three creature activity levels — Relaxed, Normal, and Fierce — to tailor the challenge to their preference. This setting can be changed anytime in Options (accessed via the – Button).

New New Game+ (Roll Over) Option:
For players who have cleared the story, a “Roll Over” option allows starting a new playthrough while carrying over some save data. When selecting an empty Rescue Database on the file selection screen, players can skip the introduction if they’ve reached day 2 previously and begin their journey on exploration day 2 heading toward Sun-Speckled Terrace.

Updated Controls and Quality-of-Life Improvements

The update also brings enhancements to control schemes and user interface:

– Auto Target Lock for Cursor can now be toggled on or off in the Options menu.
– Players can choose whether the whistle’s center point is the cursor or the player avatar. By default, this is set to “Player Avatar” when playing on the Relaxed activity level but can be changed anytime.
– The aiming arrow speed (when holding the X button) can be set to “Normal” or “Precise,” with “Precise” making it easier to aim the Pikmin’s Charge and Oatchi’s Rush attacks.

Bug Fixes

The update also addresses various bugs to improve overall gameplay stability and quality.

Additional Notes

A patch with the same changes (Version 1.1.0) has also been released for the Pikmin 4 demo. However, the demo version does not support linking to the Pikmin Bloom mobile application.
