After a stunning World Series run in 2023, the Texas Rangers have yet to return to the postseason. The team missed the playoffs for the second straight year in 2025, as injuries plagued the roster and key contributors struggled to stay on the field during a disappointing season.

Despite these challenges, the Rangers showed slight improvement, finishing the 2025 season with an 81-81 record. However, they ended the year six games out of a Wild Card berth, falling short of postseason contention once again.

While the Rangers struggled offensively, their defense stood out as a bright spot. Texas was rewarded for its stellar defensive efforts with the American League Team Gold Glove award, as reported by Talkin’ Baseball. Since 2020, Rawlings has awarded a Gold Glove to the best defensive team in each league, and in 2025, the Rangers earned this prestigious honor for the AL. The Chicago Cubs clinched the National League Team Gold Glove for the second time.

### Rangers Recognized for Excellent Defense in 2025

The Rangers led all MLB teams in Defensive Runs Saved (DRS), posting an impressive +89 DRS that edged out the Cubs’ +84. The Los Angeles Dodgers followed as the next closest team with +67 DRS.

Right fielder Adolis Garcia led the Rangers with a team-high +16 DRS, ranking first at his position. Second baseman Marcus Semien also made a significant defensive impact, ranking third among all second basemen with +5 DRS.

In addition to DRS, the Rangers showcased depth in Outs Above Average (OAA) metrics. Three Texas players ranked in the top seven at their respective positions for OAA:

– Marcus Semien led the team with +7 OAA, placing seventh among second basemen.
– Josh Jung recorded +5 OAA, ranking seventh among third basemen.
– Wyatt Langford finished with +5 OAA, the fourth-best mark among left fielders.

Semien’s defensive excellence earned him his second career Gold Glove in 2025. Unfortunately, his season was cut short by a foot injury in August, causing him to miss the Rangers’ final 33 games during the crucial stretch run.

Other key players—Adolis Garcia, Wyatt Langford, Kyle Seager, and Josh Jung—faced similar struggles, as injuries and offensive difficulties defined the Rangers’ 2025 campaign. Despite these setbacks, Texas’ strong defense remained a promising foundation for the team moving forward.
