A woman was taken to the hospital after being attacked by a moose while walking her dog in Boulder County on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. west of Jamestown, where the woman was walking her dog off-leash. According to a Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) news release, a young bull moose knocked her to the ground and stomped on her multiple times.

The woman sustained head and back injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

When CPW officials arrived at the scene, they were unable to locate the moose. In response to the attack, officials have placed warning signs in the area to alert the public about aggressive moose behavior.

CPW also emphasized that most reported moose attacks involve dogs. They advise that pets should be kept on a leash outdoors, especially in areas where moose are known to live.
