**The Filibuster and Puerto Rican Statehood: A Complex Debate**
*Posted on November 6, 2015 by mbrfl*
With discussions about ending the filibuster growing louder, it’s important to consider how such a change might impact efforts to grant Puerto Rico statehood.
On one side of the debate, some argue that if the filibuster is eliminated, it could pave the way for Puerto Rico to become a state. However, others contend that Democrats will likely end the filibuster the next time they regain power anyway, making any current resistance merely a postponement of the inevitable.
If ending the filibuster is truly unavoidable, does that mean granting Puerto Rico independence is the only way to permanently remove Puerto Rican statehood from the political agenda? What are your thoughts?
