The Chicago Bulls currently sit alone atop the Eastern Conference standings, and much of the credit goes to Nikola Vucevic. On Tuesday night, the team hosted the Philadelphia 76ers at the United Center in a highly anticipated matchup. Both teams entered the game with identical 5-1 records, battling for the East’s top spot.
Philadelphia came out firing, dominating the first half and building a lead as large as 24 points. Tyrese Maxey was unstoppable, consistently finding the bottom of the net, while the 76ers controlled the game both behind the arc and on the glass.
However, the Bulls refused to back down. As the game progressed, Chicago turned up their defensive intensity, effectively cooling off Philadelphia’s hot shooting. They clawed their way back into contention, and late in the fourth quarter, the young and scrappy Bulls found themselves just one point behind.
With time winding down, Josh Giddey took control. Positioned at the top of the key, he had an opportunity to give Chicago its first lead of the night. Driving to the rim with Kelly Oubre Jr. and Joel Embiid defending fiercely, Giddey made a brilliant decision. Instead of attempting a contested layup, he extended his left hand over the baseline and delivered a pinpoint pass mid-air to an open Nikola Vucevic in the corner.
Despite Jared McCain quickly rotating to contest, Vucevic calmly elevated and drained the game-winning shot with 3.2 seconds remaining.

What an incredible final play to cap off a stunning 24-point comeback. Giddey’s incredible vision and passing ability were on full display, as he finished the game with an impressive triple-double: 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 assists.
Credit should also be given to Vucevic for his continued excellence from beyond the arc. The veteran big man is proving that his career-best shooting efficiency from last season was no fluke, having already made 15 of 30 attempts from three-point range this year.
