Bollywood Hungama has been at the forefront in reporting the ongoing tussle between national cinema chains—namely PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis—and film producers over the payment of the Virtual Print Fee (VPF).
Last month, the industry received a jolt when PVR and Inox suspended the advance booking of the much-awaited film *Jolly LLB 3*, starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi. The producers, Star Studio18, had refused to pay the VPF, leading to the halt of advance bookings twice, including once just 12 hours before the commencement of the first show.
As per reports, the studio eventually paid the VPF but made it clear that this was done under protest, and they intended to continue discussions on the issue.
More than a month later, the VPF dispute has resurfaced—this time involving the film *Single Salma*.
**Exclusive:** After *Jolly LLB 3*, the Star Studio18-PVR Inox conflict over VPF continues for Huma Qureshi-starrer *Single Salma*.
A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “*Single Salma* is also produced by Star Studio18, and they once again requested a VPF waiver from PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis. However, the request was not granted. Discussions are ongoing. If no solution is reached, *Single Salma* will likely release only in non-national theatres across the country.”
According to trade sources, *Single Salma* is expected to release on around 200 screens. The film stars Huma Qureshi in the lead role, who coincidentally was also part of *Jolly LLB 3*. Shreyas Talpade and Sunny Singh also feature in the movie.
Star Studio18 feels justified in requesting the waiver, especially considering that *Jolly LLB 3* is slated for a 2025 release. However, PVR and Inox argue that the agreement stipulates the studio will only stop paying VPF if other production houses follow suit.
On September 30, 2025, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) directed an investigation against PVR INOX Limited over allegations of abusing its dominant position by continuing to levy VPF charges on film producers.
