Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce recently shared his honest thoughts on his brother Travis Kelce’s 1587 Prime steakhouse in Kansas City.
“I mean, it’s a high end, like, very well done steakhouse,” Jason said. “There’s a lot more creativity to it. I didn’t know there was the GOAT Burger, which was like a step up from the big red, but I’m like, I’m getting the big red. I’m here for the Andy Reid Burger. Gotta get the big red. And then got the cheesesteak as well. We also got the meatballs and whipped ricotta.”
Jason’s praise came just days after the restaurant faced some online criticism. A Reddit post titled “Travis Kelce’s 1587 Prime PR vs. Reality” showcased a fancy promotional photo alongside a plain-looking bowl of $16 mashed potatoes. One user even joked that the picture “caused instant Irritable Bowel Syndrome.”
1587 Prime opened on September 17 and is co-owned by Travis Kelce, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and hospitality group Noble 33. The steakhouse’s menu features an array of upscale steaks, including a standout 40-ounce wagyu tomahawk. Other popular dishes include crispy togarashi fried chicken and a rich twice-baked potato loaded with black truffle and smoked gouda.
The restaurant also offers unique sides like the Mahomes Ketchup Flight, which features different ketchup flavors. For drinks, guests can enjoy creative cocktails such as “The Alchemy,” inspired by a Taylor Swift song.
In addition to praising the food, Jason Kelce also shared a hilarious story about his dad, Ed Kelce, causing an awkward yet funny moment with the restaurant staff during a family dinner.
Jason recounted how Ed, who has difficulty hearing in noisy environments, accidentally stole the show. While a waitress was listing menu items, Ed whispered to Jason, “I can’t fu**ing hear a single thing she’s saying.” Then, without realizing it, he blurted out, “Whippercotta meatballs.”
The waitress responded, “Oh yeah, the Whippercotta is nice.” Jason quickly clarified, “Oh no, no, he’s (not) ordering that.”
“It was so f**king funny,” Jason added.
The dinner took place the night before the Chiefs’ 28-7 victory over the Washington Commanders at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday. Jason, who was in town for ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast, decided to share a meal at 1587 Prime with his dad before the big game.
