William Daniels, star of *Boy Meets World*, has openly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to demolish the White House East Wing. Daniels described the building as a “piece of history” and emphasized that such an act should not be taken “lightly.”
Recently, Daniels shared a still from his 1972 movie *1776*, in which he portrayed John Adams, one of the founding fathers and the second president of the United States. The photo also features Howard Da Silva and Ken Howard, who played Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, respectively. Along with the image, Daniels offered his perspective on the situation in a heartfelt caption.
He wrote, “We performed ‘1776’ in the beautiful East Room when Nixon was in the White House. He was very gracious even though none of us had voted for him.” Criticizing Trump’s decision, Daniels added, “The current president has ripped a piece of history from our lives and we mustn’t take this lightly.”
Daniels’ comments come amid reports that President Trump is demolishing the White House East Wing to replace it with a new ballroom. Initially, the project was estimated to cost around $200 million. Speaking to NBC, Trump said, “We’re making it a little bigger. It will be top of the line, as good as it can get anywhere in the world.” He also noted the new ballroom will have a capacity of 900 people.
On a lighter note, William Daniels recently reunited with his *Boy Meets World* co-star Danielle Fishel on *Dancing With the Stars*’ Dedication Night earlier this month. Fishel performed to the sitcom’s theme song alongside her dance partner, Pasha Pashkov.
Daniels’ reflections remind us of the significance of preserving American history, even as changes and renovations take place.
