Bo Bichette has been out of the Toronto Blue Jays lineup since early September after the team placed him on the injured list due to a knee injury. With the World Series set to begin on Friday night, reports indicate that the star infielder could be returning for the championship series.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider revealed some potential roles Bichette could play upon his return. According to baseball columnist Shi Davidi, the 27-year-old could see action at second base, shortstop, or designated hitter during the World Series.
Schneider noted that Bichette is still not fully cleared to play just yet. “He’s feeling good, but still a few boxes to check,” the manager said. “He continues to hit, run, take ground balls.” This statement leaves open all usage possibilities for Bichette, including spots at shortstop, second base, and as DH.
From the sounds of it, Bichette remains questionable for Friday’s contest. His participation in Game 1 of the World Series will largely depend on how he performs in his workouts leading up to the game, Schneider added.
Before suffering the knee injury, Bichette was playing incredibly well. Across 139 games, the two-time All-Star posted a .311 batting average—tied for his career high—along with a .357 on-base percentage. He also recorded 181 hits, 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs, proving to be a key contributor for the Blue Jays this season.
Stay tuned to see if Bo Bichette will make his much-anticipated return as Toronto aims for World Series glory.
