Today, developer Free Range Games and publisher North Beach Games have announced the launch date for the Durin’s Folk DLC, the first expansion for the survival game *The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria*. This exciting new content will be released on November 18 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X.
Durin’s Folk promises to expand the game with over 20 hours of additional content, including repeatable cooperative events set in randomized dungeons. The DLC introduces new endgame content, featuring an additional story chapter rich with expanded lore, mysterious and challenging areas beyond the mountain’s caverns, and thoughtful new gameplay mechanics.
One of the key new features allows players to rescue and recruit NPCs (non-player characters) they encounter in the mines of Moria. These recruits will join players’ settlements and take on useful roles such as blacksmith, miner, brewmaster, and guard. Over time, players can collaborate with their NPC allies to construct impressive Monuments, enhancing their settlements further.
Through the new story content, players will uncover the mystery of Durin’s Tower, explore the area outside the mountain for the first time, and build massive bases in this large new play area. Additionally, new materials, items, and recipes will provide plenty of fresh crafting options for the dwarven characters.
Durin’s Folk also adds randomized endgame expeditions that players can repeatedly dive into, offering the chance to earn valuable loot and keep the gameplay experience fresh.
It’s worth noting that *The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria* became available on Steam and Xbox Series S and X in late August 2024. While the game did not break sales records, it performed well enough to receive two years of dedicated support and now this substantial DLC.
On Steam, the game holds a “Very Positive” user review rating, and estimates suggest it may have sold around half a million units on the platform alone.
With the Durin’s Folk expansion, players can look forward to a richer, more immersive journey into the depths of Moria, filled with new stories, challenges, and opportunities to build and explore like never before.
